The Doctor of Theology is designed to equip students with the rigorous intellectual foundations required to develop and refine a comprehensive set of competencies including cognitive, contextual, analytical, critical, and research-oriented skills. Through the completion of an original doctoral dissertation, candidates are expected to make a substantive and novel contribution to the production, expansion, or generation of theological knowledge, thereby advancing the discipline in meaningful and enduring ways.

The program’s mission is to cultivate and educate scholars committed to the academic study of Religion, as well as those preparing for the practice of religious ministry or other forms of public service vocation. The program also welcomes students from other academic units and disciplines who seek to engage with this field as part of their broader intellectual formation.
